Assistant Professor
Research Interests: Late Antiquity, Medieval and Byzantine Studies, Manuscripts and Textual Criticism
I am a philologist working on Latin, Greek, and Syriac texts from late antiquity through the middle ages. The Christian cult of the saints and the rich corpus of hagiographic literature that developed around it have been the focus of most of my recent publications. My critical edition, translation, and commentary of the Menologion of Basil II, a brilliantly illuminated Byzantine calendar of the saints, was published by Harvard University Press in 2025. I am also co-editing a volume of essays with Alicia Walker entitled, Visual and Verbal Expressions in the Menologion of Basil II: New Perspectives on Text and Image, which is under contract with Palgrave Macmillan.
Before arriving at the University of Tennessee, I was a member of the ERC-funded project, Priscian’s Ars Grammatica in European Scriptoria (PAGES), hosted at Sapienza Università di Roma. Prior to that, I spent two years as the NEH/SCS Postdoctoral Fellow in Latin Lexicography at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich. I have also taught at Bryn Mawr College, Gettysburg College, and Haverford College.
